The Million Girls Moonshot seeks to re-imagine who can engineer, who can build, who can make.

It will inspire and prepare the next generation of innovators by engaging one million more girls in STEM learning opportunities through afterschool and summer programs over the next five years.

Research shows that when it comes to predicting future career decisions, early interest in science is more important than test scores.

OST programs have proven to be important places for developing student interest in STEM-based, hands-on learning. And with more than 80 percent of future jobs requiring science and technology skills, the time to boost opportunities for students and subvert a growing workforce crisis is today.

Yet, students who are least likely to get involved in science—children of color, girls, and students who don’t perform well academically—are not only being cut out of a chance to have fun and explore the world around them, they’re being taken out of a critically needed workforce pipeline.
