Creating a Welcoming Environment

Creating a welcoming out-of-school time environment is essential to ensure that young people feel comfortable, engaged, and supported. During this two-hour training we will cover how the importance of creating a warm and inviting physical space, the importance of personalized greetings, clear expectations, inclusive and diverse programming, positive and respectful interactions, youth input and decision-making, supportive relationships, family and community engagement, and continuous improvement. By implementing these strategies, out-of-school programs can create an environment where young people feel valued, supported, and excited to participate. A welcoming environment sets the stage for positive experiences, learning, and growth.
